“Creativity revealed itself early in my life. At just five years old, I sketched a two-story house complete with detailed furnishings, trees, flowers, birds and a car in the driveway. That simple crayon drawing caught the attention of my teacher and kindergarten peers, planting the first seed of my artistic journey.
As I grew, I devoted myself to drawing and painting, often recreating images that celebrated Black identity and culture. This passion eventually led me to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art, where one professor encouraged me to consider art as a career. Although I initially pursued a different path (earning a master’s degree in early childhood special education with an emphasis on autism spectrum disorders), I never set aside my God-given creative proclivity. Painting then and now is my sanctuary. It is an altar where the Lord and I communicate and collaborate a message I was purposed to deliver.
Today, my greatest inspiration comes from my three children, each carrying a unique light that often becomes the subject of my work. Their presence infuses my paintings with a sense of transcendence, bridging earthly beauty with spiritual depth.
For me, art is more than an expression; it is ministry. My paintings are an extension of the Creator, flowing from my spirit to the canvas. Through them, I seek to awaken something within the observer; a soulful encounter that lingers beyond the moment, reminding us of the divine connection amongst the human experience.”
